UWA course: The latest science on climate change and renewable energy innovations
Thursdays 2 sessions: 29 Oct and 5 Nov
Time: 7-8:30pm
These two not-to-be-missed talks by Dr Ray Wills, Adjunct Professor at UWA and CEO of WA Sustainable Energy Association gives strategic advice on the current shape and future potential of sustainable energy projects in Western Australia: assisting clients understand legislative frameworks around the sustainable energy industry and providing introductions and network opportunities with business, government and community stakeholders.
Climate change induced by global warming will change the distribution and abundance of a huge range of species, and impact on all primary industries reliant on the natural environment including agriculture, fishing, and forestry, and ecotourism, and a raft of other secondary and tertiary industries that contribute to the welfare of Australian communities and support the economy. In this climate, we must use all means available to reduce and offset emissions, including strong renewable energy and energy efficiency targets. The challenge of climate change must be the catalyst for changing the way we think about and plan infrastructure, changing the way we use energy, and in using energy sustainably, future proof our economy.
Dr Wills' workshops on environmental change, global warming and business: presentations to a range of companies detailing the scientific basis of natural variability and human influence on climate change on the regional and global scale, and examining the business risks and opportunities in future carbon-constrained economies.
He also gives policy advice to WA State Government on climate change, global warming and business: advice to WA State Government detailing climate change science, and examining the business risks and opportunities in future carbon-constrained economies. Work has included evaluation of GHG emissions based on economic activity, emission source, corporate use and community use, and contrasting results with available information on comparable regional cities in Australia.
