Hills Climate Action Group November column in Darlington Review
Seventy stalwart Darlington souls braved gale force winds outside Darlington Hall on October 24 signalling their desire for meaningful climate change action.
They formed a human chain to spell out the number 350 as part of the international effort to draw attention to the fact that we need to draw down carbon in the atmosphere to under 350 parts per million (see the photo along with thousands of others: http://www.flickr.com/photos/350org/4039238034/).
Children, dogs and adults listened while eleven year old Treetops Montessori student, Patrick Truman Healy told them: “Children have the right to tell their parents to stop climate change.”

This photo went to the 350.org coordinators for posting on the giant screen at Times Square, New York.
The next opportunities for residents to advance the movement against climate change are:
- A screening of the film The Age of Stupid, starring Pete Postlethwaite, Darlington Hall, December 4, 7:30 pm (entry by donation)
- The Walk Against Warming on December 12, for details visit the WA Conservation Council (www.conservationwa.asn.au) or the Coalition for a Safe Climate (www.safeclimate.org.au).
Also, the Hills Climate Action Group has asked the East Metropolitan Regional Council to brief us on their waste disposal proposals. They are investigating a number of alternatives, most of which involve incineration and one is a composting method. The meeting is on November 26, 7:00 pm at Parkerville Hall, corner Seaborne St and Riley Road, Parkerville.
Our next meeting is Sat Nov 21, St Cuthbert’s meeting room, 3:30 pm. For more information: 9299 8347 or 9252 0432, hillsclimate@safeclimate.org.au
