Bring the Safe Climate message to Walk Against Warming

Meet at PICA (in the Cultural Centre, Northbridge)
March to Russell Square

Walk Against Warming will tie in with demonstrations on climate change all around the world on the same day - the midway point of the UN climate talks in Copenhagen.

Within the diversity of the wide climate movement, join with others to bring the Safe Climate message to Walk Against Warming. March with us with banners and placcards to demand emergency action along the lines of: set the targets the planet needs; no emissions trading scheme; 100% renewables by 2020; phase out coal; climate justice for the Third World.

The Camp for Climate Action will be an inspiring few days of workshops and grassroots direct action designed to stop coal mining and its use for energy production in the coal capital of WA, Collie, from 17th December to 21st December.

SafeClimate in Action

Over 250 people took part in the "less than 350" action at state parliament on October 24.

Almost 200 cyclists arrived with the Critical Mass ride from PICA in Northbridge after making a 350 sign on the foreshore.

Copenhagen reality check #1: 25% by 2020 isn't in the ball park

Climate policy analyst David Spratt writes:

If [Australia] maintain[s] that [per capita emissions] rate, our carbon budget to 2050 runs out in five years. Five years!! Or put in another way, as the chart illustrates, Australia and the USA would need to be at zero emissions by 2020.

Not 25% by 2020, but 100% by 2020 for Australia. That's the science, unadorned. God forbid the politics.

CSIRO bid to gag emissions trading scheme policy attack

THE nation's peak science agency has tried to gag the publication of a paper by one of its senior environmental economists attacking the Rudd government's climate change policies.

The paper, by the CSIRO's Clive Spash, argues the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme is an ineffective way to cut emissions, and instead direct legislation or a tax on carbon is needed.
