Feeding our coal addiction:
WA’s energy future at the crossroads
Does WA need 3 new coal fired power stations? Can we rely on ‘carbon
capture technology’? Are there alternatives?
Communities around the world are desperately pushing for clean energy
solutions to tackle climate change; however with the State Government in
the process of approving three new coal fired power stations WA’s is
set to lock in a highly polluting energy future for decades to come.
While the global scientific consensus demands radical and urgent cuts in
global carbon pollution to avoid a climate catastrophe, new coal fired
power stations proposed for Collie and Eneabba will increase our carbon
pollution and place further strain on precious groundwater supplies.
The EPA has advised that the new thirsty and polluting power stations
can be built on the condition they implement ‘carbon capture and Storage
technology’ IF it ever becomes commercially and technically viable.
