Banner painting this Saturday for World Environment Day
Hi all,
Instead of our regular Safe Climate meeting, we'll have a banner painting for World Environment Day this Saturday, May 15, from 2-4pm at the Activist Centre, 15/5 Aberdeen St, East Perth (next to McIver station). (phone me if you need better directions)
We still have stuff to discuss about preparing for World Environment Day and beyond, but we can probably get meeting business done as we paint.
In the light of Rudd's dropping the CPRS (good riddance) and failing to replace it with serious climate action, we've started discussing the theme for our stall, to have on the banner - along the lines of "it's still the climate, stupid" or "Kev, climate is still the issue" or (my preference) "Climate change is still the issue". I'll draft a banner design to bring along. Any other ideas? I think we should include the concrete measures we're calling for (in smaller dot points) - eg renewables, phase out coal, etc.
For people who haven't made it to the last few Safe Climate meetings, we've decided to hold a stall at the stall day Brenda (from Environment House) is organising. We're going to do a climate clothesline project - inviting people to bring (or make at the stall) a climate message to display around our gazebo (strung up with clothes pegs). We'll also have leaflets, petitions and postcards on the stall.
I'm starting to get together a roster for the stall on World Environment Day (June 5). If I haven't phoned you yet, it might be because I don't have your number! Can you let me know if you're available?
Best wishes,
Kamala Emanuel
