Cuba's achievements in social justice and sustainability

SATURDAY 26TH JUNE, 12.30-1.45PM
State School Teachers Union,
150-152 Adelaide Terrace, East Perth
(enter from carpark off Bennett Street)

In 2006, the World Wildlife Fund rated Cuba as the only country to have achieved social and environmental sustainability. Since then, the country has undertaken an "energy revolution," improving the supply of electricity to remote communities while cutting kerosene and other fossil fuel use, dramatically improving efficiency by mass distribution of subsidised appliances, and expanding renewables. Annolies Truman, who visited Cuba in 2008, will discuss Cuba's environmental and social achievements and what has made them possible.
