Climate Change Policy in WA, Australia and the World: what next?
Webb Lecture Theatre, Geography Bldg, UWA
Organised by the
Institute of Advanced Studies, UWA
After the widely perceived
failure of the Copenhagen climate change conference, the absence of any
post-2012 international climate change agreement and an Australian
emissions trading scheme now deferred until at least 2013, what’s next
for climate change policy in WA, Australia and the world?
This seminar – held at The University of Western Australia in association with the Institute of Advanced Studies – brings together participants from government, business, academia and the non-profit sector to examine these questions.
Issues to be discussed at the seminar include:
- Commonwealth climate change policy after the CPRS
- What role now for the Australian states, WA in particular?
- Merits of instruments other than an emissions trading scheme – a carbon tax, for example, or direct regulation?
- Business perspectives on climate change policy in 2010 and beyond
- Renewable energy and energy policy
- Is it time to seriously consider nuclear power in Australia?
- What are the prospects for COP 17 in December 2010 in Cancun, Mexico?
Free event - registration by July 6th essential.
