Rally Sun June 5 for climate action
I'm writing to let you know about the rally to "Say 'yes' to climate action" that will be held on Sunday June 5, 11am in the Perth Cultural Centre, and encourage you to attend.
The organisers are welcoming the Gillard government's carbon tax/emissions trading scheme before the full details have been revealed. While abstractly a price on pollution could be a step towards climate action, there are dangers that this legislation will at best drive investment in gas at the expense of renewable energy. It may not even reduce greenhouse gas emissions at all, turning the community off real action on climate change by increasing costs and giving handouts to the biggest polluters for little or no real benefit.
Safe Climate Perth would like to encourage everyone to attend the rally and bring a message of support for climate action that will work - for renewable energy & phasing out fossil fuels, forest protection and public transport.

Coal mining in the Kimberley? No way!
Finally, I'm forwarding two attachments (here and here) at the request of Kimberley Traditional owner and scientist Dr Anne Poelina. Coal mining companies are planning to mine coal and extract coal seam gas from the Mardoowarra (Fitzroy River) region, with leases covering over 8000sq km. Spread the word around, and please be ready to take action to stop this coal expansion. Contact Anne for more information - email majala@wn.com.au or phone 0408 922 155.
Yours for a safe climate future,
Kamala Emanuel
