United March on CHOGM to call for justice and climate action, not racism and war
As scientists record another record low for Arctic sea ice volume, the need for genuine climate action becomes ever more pressing. While previous CHOGM summits have paid lip service to the need for climate action, words have not been matched by deeds.
The leading powers in the Commonwealth - including and especially Australia - are among the biggest greenhouse polluters in the world.
Australian governments are planning at most only token measures to reduce emissions and still maintain strong support for the polluting fossil fuel industries. For instance, there are no plans to divert the approximately $10 billion currently paid in subsidies to fossil fuel industries to renewable energy instead.
Safe Climate Perth believes Australia should move to 100% renewable energy by 2020. This has been shown to be possible by the Beyond Zero Emissions Zero Carbon Australia plan.
This is the kind of action that is required to make the significant
emission reductions that are needed. Help bring this message to
the united march on CHOGM.
