Open letter to Australian senators from climate action groups

Dear Australian senators,

The delay in the passage of the US climate legislation through the U.S. Senate and the near-certainty that a new binding climate protocol will not emerge from the Copenhagen conference, presents Australia with an important opportunity.

Mass arrests at Federal Parliament as Australian’s urge effective climate action

23 November 2009, Canberra

Police are arresting approximately 150 climate protesters taking part in a sit-in at Federal Parliament.

One by one, protesters are being led or dragged away from the front entrance, following a mass civil disobedience protest today. Around 200 people converged on Parliament this morning to stage a mass sit-in, shutting down the entrance to the building."

Hills Climate Action Group November column in Darlington Review

Seventy stalwart Darlington souls braved gale force winds outside Darlington Hall on October 24 signalling their desire for meaningful climate change action.

They formed a human chain to spell out the number 350 as part of the international effort to draw attention to the fact that we need to draw down carbon in the atmosphere to under 350 parts per million (see the photo along with thousands of others: http://www.flickr.com/photos/350org/4039238034/).

Today is the day!! - biggest climate action EVER

The International 350 climate action TODAY - Sat 24 October - is blossoming!!

There are now over 4600 actions listed on the 350.org website! Only a day and a half ago there were around 3700 and a week and a half ago it was closer to 2000.

There are now actions in 177 countries whereas a week or so ago it was 163!

Make sure you come to the action nearest you to help make this day of action a success.

Top climate scientists and the prestigious UK Royal Society say we must DECREASE atmospheric CO2 concentration from the present 390 ppm to 300-350 ppm ASAP for a safe planet for all peoples and all species. [1, 2].

Unfortunately, world governments and the pro-coal Australian Liberal-National Party Coalition Opposition and the pro-coal Australian Labor Federal Government (aka the Lib-Labs) want to INCREASE CO2 and other greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution. [3].

Collie Mail reports on Climate Camp

MORE than 200 renewable energy campaigners from Camp for Climate Action WA will be in Collie during December for a peaceful protest.

Organiser Emma McIntyre said they wanted to invite the community to join them for three days of peaceful protest, including workshops, forums and a day of fun, creative, and inspiring direct community action.
