Poll supports flawed carbon trading

As the government tries to pass its controversial carbon trading legislation, the latest polling indicates widespread public support for it. A recent Nielsen poll found 65% support the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS), while just 25% oppose it.
Climate change lobbying

The Conservation Council WA will be holding four free workshops to improve your lobbying skills for climate change action.

Bluewaters Coal-fired Power Station brought to a halt by forest activists

Early this morning, two activists locked onto a conveyor belt at Bluewaters coal-fired power station near Collie. The action is to protest Griffin Energy’s decision to burn wood from WA native forests for energy production. The two activists were arrested and later removed from the conveyor belt by police, after more than four hours of preventing coal from being fed into the power station. A third activist has also been arrested at the site.
Sydney: Climate activists sit-in at Labor party head-quarters
Around 50 people attended a climate protest at Australian Labor Party Headquarters in Sydney this morning [June 23], angry at the NSW Government’s budget decision to expand coal power in the state.

BBC: Australians demand climate action
Thousands of demonstrators have rallied across Australia to demand greater government action to protect the environment from climate change.
"Plan B: An agenda for immediate climate action" launched
Greenpeace and other environment groups have launched a new policy document called "Plan B: An agenda for immediate climate action".
The document can be found online here.
The document suggests a plan of action including:
1. Prioritise saving energy
2. Fast-track the switch to a renewable-energy economy
3. Drive the shift to low emissions vehicles and sustainable cities
Safe Climate Australia launched
I’m writing to introduce you to a significant climate project a team of us have developed over the past six months.
Today [7 June 2009] we announced the formation of Safe Climate Australia – a not-for-profit group dedicated to planning the transition to a zero-carbon economy.
Safe Climate Australia has been formed by a group of concerned climate scientists, community and business leaders with a shared understanding of the need for emergency action to restore a safe climate.
