Newcastle: protest flotilla disrupts coal dredging
Protesters in kayaks on June 7, 2009 disrupted one of the largest dredging operations in the world, and the expansion of the world's biggest coal port in Newcastle.
Thirteen water-borne protesters paddled into the way of dredging machines in the South Arm of the Hunter River, calling on both State and Federal Governments to place the interests of the environment and the broader community ahead of coal corporations.

Wales adopts target of 100% renewables by 2025
The government of Wales has embarked on a new scheme to radically reduce its use of resources in the space of one generation.
The document outlining the goals of this scheme can be downloaded here.
One component of this plan is the goal of producing "as much electricity from renewable sources by 2025 as we consume". This goal is spelled out in Part 2 of the document.
Renewable energy's 26,000 new jobs

RENEWABLE energy projects under construction or planned in response to the proposed emissions trading scheme will create 26,000 jobs, according to new research published as the federal Coalition seeks to defer the scheme on the basis that it could be a "jobs killer".

The Australian Greens will move in the Senate to drive domestic and global climate action without the failed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme dragging it down.
“Since the Rudd Government refuses to work with the Greens to fix the CPRS, we want to see this 'agreement to fail' rejected and get Australia moving with real climate action,” said Australian Greens Deputy Leader, Senator Christine Milne.

CFMEU rejects carbon trading job claims

The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Electrical Union (CFMEU) says the release of figures warning that emissions trading will cost thousands of jobs is part of a scare campaign.
The Minerals Council says emissions trading will cost 23,000 jobs in the next decade.
Opposition spokesman Andrew Robb says that backs his call for the Government to dump its insistence on the scheme being passed next month.
Conservation Council launches community climate change dialogue
The Conservation Council of WA, in partnership with the Institute of Sustainability and Technology Policy at Murdoch University is hosting a major community-based event to engage Western Australians in a discussion on climate change issues and challenges. The Dialogue will have a strong focus on facilitating and building community-based participation in solving the climate change crisis.
It will be held on: Sunday 28 June, 8.30am – 4.30pm, Murdoch University
